Is it enough to stand your ground?
To confront the one who did you wrong?
To stand tall and be firm?
To tell them it’s unacceptable?
Do we really need to go
that extra mile or two
to cut someone down
to the core of who they are?
Is it necessary to bring them
to their knees to repent,
to acknowledge their sins,
so they admit to the wrongs?
I am a nice person at heart.
I am overly generous at times.
I am a naive little girl on occasion.
I look for the soul every person carries.
I like to look on the bright side
no matter how dark
and depressing pieces
I may be writing at times.
Everyone has a soul and purpose,
a reason for existence,
or God wouldn’t have put them
within our grasp.
They hurt me – yes.
They let me down – yes.
They disappointed me – yes.
They did the same to others – yes.
But in no way am I the one
to be someone else’s
judge, jury, and executioner
no matter how much I think I might know.
I am not God,
and I will not play that role.
I let out my frustrations,
and let it go.
Can you?
So much hate in one place
can only bring fire
and utter destruction
to the hearts carrying the flame.
So redirect the fire
of bitterness and contempt
to something better
for our souls’ sakes.
Don’t let the evil emotions
lurking within
consume all the beauty
we have left to give.
Instead of carrying
a grudge for eternity
that can only destroy
God’s given light.
It’s time to let it go.
Let go of the pieces of anger,
pieces of hate,
and pain,
and frustration.
Let go of the negative,
and let it float away
on God’s breath
as He supplies us
with fresh emotions,
a stronger heart,
a steadier soul,
and better understanding.
Every soul has a purpose
no matter how dark
or lost to us
they may be.
We are not God
and never will be,
so let’s let God take care
of what we can’t control.
